Research
- My general research interests revolve around applying methods of algebraic geometry to algebraic topology.
- I am currently working on developing a very general theory of stacks which sees stacks as particular presheaves with values in a closed symmetric monoidal 2-category. I gave a series of three seminars along these lines earlier in the year.
- I am also interested in how a theory of algebraic stacks can be used to describe the algebra of homology cooperations in stable homotopy theory. The algebra of complex bordism cooperations, for example, may be described in terms of a moduli stack of one-dimensional commutative formal group laws. Many important but highly technical results of chromatic stable homotopy theory, chromatic convergence for example, become conceptual results of algebraic geometry via this description by stacks. I gave a series of two seminars along these lines a few years back.
