CR 4550 Theories of Crime
SUNY College at Old Westbury, Department of Sociology

Required Readings: There are two main books for this course, to which all students must have regular access.  The “text” for this course will be Ronald L. Akers, Criminological Theories: Introduction, evaluation, and application (Los Angeles: Roxbury Publishing Company, 2000). These relatively “dry” and theoretical readings will be supplemented with selections from Readings in White-Collar Crime, by David Shichor, Larry Gaines, and Richard Ball, (Waveland Press, 1999) In addition, a one or two serious film “texts,” short fiction, and other readings will supplement the didactic readings.
