This course is a survey of sociological research methods; it is a prerequisite for the Senior Seminar in both Criminology and Sociology.  We will cover the following "units" this term:

Unit I -             Positivism and Disproof
Unit II -            Anecdotes vs. Representative Data
Unit III -           Ethics
Unit IV -          Collecting Quantitative Data
Unit V -            Analyzing Quantitative Data (simple version?)
Unit VI -          Collecting Qualitative Data
Unit VII -         Analyzing Qualitative Data (is there a simple version?)
Unit VIII -        Exploring Topics
Unit IX -          Producing Research

Student grades will depend on student performance in the following areas:

Paper Assignments:                        60%

Midterm Exam(s):                          20%

Homeworks/post-test:                   10%

Attendance/Participation:            + 10%

Total:                                           100%
